The Plan
Now that you've committed to Aperture Films, it's time you learn a little bit about what you will be doing during the film-making process.
Our lessons are designed so as you learn about each step of the process, you are applying what you have learned in your own film-making project.
You will be working with a group of five other young filmmakers in order to produce an original short film production. To do so, you will need to establish your film crew and learn all the secrets of the cinematic trade.
The goals of the Aperture Films learning experience are numerous:
1. ORGANIZE: As part of a group, you will need to organize yourselves around the tasks that you will need to accomplish. To do so, you will learn about the different members of a film crew, their roles and responsibilities. Each group member will assume one or more of these roles.
2. UNDERSTAND: You will learn the talk of the trade, the technical jargon of the cinematic industry. If you want to be a serious filmmaker, you have to be able to distinguish a close-up from a long shot. You will be able to identify film genres, camera techniques, and more.
3. PRODUCE: The next step in the learning process is where things get hands on! Your group will actively participate in the creation of your original short film. From storyboarding to scriptwriting, filming to editing, you will be responsible for the entirety of the filmmaking process.
4. MARKET: No filmmaker ever became successful without showing her/his film to an audience. Your group will present your film at a local film festival where it will be seen by other Aperture Films filmmakers. You will also have the unique opportunity to critique other films.
